📜 Terms of Service
The rules, in plain English.
By using Castrel, you agree to these terms. They're written to be readable, not clever.
Last updated: April 16, 2026 · Effective: April 16, 2026
The short version: Castrel is a weather and travel planning app. Use it at your own discretion. Don't use it to break laws. The weather forecasts and trip plans are suggestions, not guarantees. We're not liable if something goes wrong. If you don't like these terms, don't use Castrel.
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using Castrel (the "Service"), whether via the website at castrel.app or the mobile app, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, you must not use Castrel.
2. Who can use Castrel
Castrel is available to anyone. However:
- To create an account, you must be at least 13 years old
- If you're under 18, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian
- You must have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement in your jurisdiction
- You must not be banned from using Castrel under any prior violation of these Terms
3. What Castrel provides
Castrel offers:
- Weather forecasts sourced from the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, and Google Weather
- AI-generated trip itineraries powered by Claude AI by Anthropic
- Venue suggestions verified against Google Places
- Calendar and event tracking stored on your device
- Optional accounts for syncing across devices (via Supabase)
4. Important disclaimers
⚠️ Weather forecasts are predictions, not guarantees. They can be inaccurate, delayed, or change rapidly. Never rely solely on Castrel for life-safety decisions (storms, floods, aviation, marine activities, etc.). Always check official sources like weather.gov for critical weather events.
⚠️ AI-generated trip plans are suggestions, not verified recommendations. While we verify venue names against Google Places, we do not independently verify hours, prices, safety, quality, or availability. Always do your own research before traveling or making reservations.
Specifically:
- Weather data comes from third-party providers and may contain errors or delays
- AI trip plans may include outdated information, closed businesses, or incorrect details
- Venue ratings and addresses come from Google and may not be current
- We do not endorse, verify, or take responsibility for any restaurant, attraction, or activity suggested
5. Your responsibilities
When using Castrel, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute Castrel's content or data

- Abuse our APIs or generate excessive requests that burden our servers
- Upload malicious content, viruses, or attempt to compromise the Service
- Impersonate others or provide false information during signup
- Use offensive, vulgar, or inappropriate display names — we reserve the right to reject or reset names that violate this
- Use Castrel in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service
6. Your account
If you create an account:
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access at privacy@castrel.app
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms
- You can sign out of all devices at any time from within the app
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app

8. Third-party services
Castrel relies on third-party services to function (see our Privacy Policy for a full list). We are not responsible for:
- Downtime, errors, or inaccuracies from those services
- Changes to their terms, pricing, or availability
- Data loss caused by third-party service failures
Your use of third-party services through Castrel may also be subject to their own terms.
9. Intellectual property
Castrel, including its name, logo, design, code, and original content, is owned by Alan Puthenchira and protected by copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without written permission.
User-generated content (liked places, saved events) remains yours. By using Castrel, you grant us a limited license to store and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Castrel is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages
- We are not liable for any damages arising from your reliance on weather data, trip suggestions, or any content in the app
- We are not liable for financial losses, injuries, or harm resulting from your travel or activities based on Castrel's suggestions
- Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid Castrel in the past 12 months, or $50 (whichever is greater)
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Castrel, Alan Puthenchira, and our service providers harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, violation of these Terms, or violation of any third-party rights.
12. Service changes and availability
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue Castrel (or any feature) at any time without notice. We may also impose usage limits, change pricing, or end free tiers. We are not liable for any changes or discontinuations.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Castrel at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using Castrel at any time. Upon termination, sections 4, 9, 10, 11, and 14 will survive.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
15. Dispute resolution
Before filing a formal legal claim, you agree to try to resolve disputes informally by contacting us at privacy@castrel.app. We'll try to resolve any issue within 30 days of receiving your notice.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where practical, notify you in the app. Continued use of Castrel after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
17. Miscellaneous
- Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect
- No waiver: Our failure to enforce a term doesn't waive our right to enforce it later
- Entire agreement: These Terms and the Privacy Policy make up the full agreement between you and Castrel
- Assignment: You can't transfer these Terms to anyone else. We can transfer them if Castrel is acquired or merged
